Educators, administrators, and edtech enthusiasts around the world joined together virtually for a day of awesomeness on October 7, 2021.

The day started by gathering around the virtual keynote stage to hear from Instructure executives about their vision for the future of both K12 and higher education.  Teachers from corners of the world shared, “Why I teach,” in a testament to the dedication and resilience of teachers everywhere. Our CEO, Steve Daly gave us a first-hand look into his latest focus-group—a roundtable of K12 students that gave their best (and silliest!) advice and shared their thoughts about everything from assessment to ducks, and even Taco Bell.

Daly concluded his opening remarks by reiterating our commitment to the education community and our mission to amplify teaching and elevate learning when he addressed the crowd, “We are here for you, and we are just getting started.”

Next, our product leaders shared exciting updates to the products within the Instructure Learning Platform. “This year at InstructureCon we are once again strengthening that long-held commitment by delivering innovations that support educators and students—from streamlining the user experience for younger learners to introducing new solutions that help districts maximize their edtech spending,” said Mitch Benson, Chief Product Officer for Instructure.

Following all of the exciting product updates, Angela Duckworth, founder and CEO of Character Lab, was featured in a new Instructure customer story about the application of her adolescent psychology research in Grit Lab, and the roll out of Grit Lab 101 to high school students through Canvas.

Up first in our all star lineup of inspiring keynotes was Lauren Bush Lauren, CEO and Founder of FEED Project. Lauren shared her founding story of FEED and shared that Instructure purchased enough bags for InstructureCon Badge Achievers to provide 10,000 meals through her program. Clearly, we weren’t the only people who were inspired.

Next, award-winning author, biomedical scientist, and CEO and Founder of Fly Sci Enterprise, Dr. Knatokie Ford spoke on using educational technologies to foster empowering learning experiences and how to make student success more equitable. We could feel her message on imposter syndrome resonate throughout the interwebs as educators reacted online to her powerful and relatable message.

After a few hours of high-energy networking, visiting the product showcase, and all-around-awesomeness, Chief Customer Officer Melissa Loble took the stage to lead a discussion on equity and inclusion with representatives from the K12 and Higher Ed communities.

Following the impactful equity discussion, it was time for the keynote everyone was waiting for... will.i.am! Masterfully interviewed by Jakobi Davis, an engineering student at Cornell University, will.i.am described his work supporting disadvantaged youth in their in-class and after-class STEAM pursuits through his i.am.angel foundation.

We rounded out the day with a ton of insightful breakout sessions by passionate educators, incredible thought leaders, and edtech gurus.  Our Instructure fam showed up and showed out online to share learnings, selfies, and ah-ha moments from the jam-packed day. We loved gathering, even virtually, to amplify teaching and empower learning together.

To everyone who attended InstructureCon 2021: Thank you! We are honored to be a small part of the work you do everyday and we can’t wait to see what you do next.
